Shivalikians bring laurels to school

Students of Shivalik Public School, Mohali exhibited tremendous performance in the 8th International Innovation Day Contest-2013, organized by City Montessori School, Lucknow, dedicated to Awakening and Nurturing the Spirit of Innovation. The contest offered a unique opportunity to the students from around the world to submit their innovations in the fields, namely- Creative Writing, Poster Making, Essay Writing, Portrait Making, Calligraphy and Mind Mapping. Harnoor Kaur of class XII(Medical) bagged the Gold Medal in Creative Idea Contest and Kanika Mahajan of class XII(Medical) won the Bronze Medal in Essay Writing contest. Gurman Kaur (VIII) won Silver medal, Maninder Singh (VII) and Vanshika (VIII) bagged Bronze medal in Collage making, Creative idea and Essay writing respectively. Aparna Sharma (XII Non Med.), Kriti Singh(VIII), Ashutosh(X), Supreet Kaur(IX) and Harmanjot Kaur(IX) won ‘Special Mention Prize’ in their respective fields.

Shivalik Public School, Phase VI, Mohali bubbled up with activity when it celebrated its annual prize distribution & cultural programmes functions for classes III to V and VI to VIII in the school auditorium. The functions commenced with the lighting of the lamp by worthy Director , Mr. D.S Bedi, which was followed by Saraswati Vandana. The annual report highlighting the achievements of the school was presented well supported with the through power point presentation. Primary Students showcased their talent by performing on the theme “Spectrum 2013″ through their performances on Goan dance, Gujarati folk dance, bhangra, Western Dance. A short story ‘A girl named why’ indicating the importance of 21st century educational features. The Middle School programme entitled “Around the world” gave the message to LIVE LOCALLY, THINK GLOBALLY AND LOVE UNIVERSALLY. Students exhibited their hidden talent and emotions through dances from all corners of world (Italian ,Japanese, Spanish, Korean, Egyptian and HIP Hop Dance , to name a few of them). The laudable contemporary dance was dedicated to the mothers all around the world. The ‘MIME’ reflecting the interference of mobile phones in life due to their excessive usage, stole the show through its humorous touch. The colors of incredible India were well splashed shown through patriotic fusion dance. Bhangra showcasing the flavor of Punjab was a thrilling visual treat. The function culminated with much awaited prize distribution ceremony wherein the worthy director Mr. D.S Bedi bestowed the prizes to the most deserving students and motivated all to keep working hard with sincere endeavours. Principal Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh Mrs. Gurkiran Kaur Nalwa presented vote of thanks. The curtains of the function came down with the singing of National Anthem.

Shivalikians wore the festive look, illuminating with shining faces, for the senior section of Shivalik Public School, Mohali celebrated its Annual Day on December 13, 2013. The Annual Day ‘Magical Journey – 2013’ celebration was bound to be a befitting occasion for the spontaneous outburst of this high spirited in a wide range of creativity. The celebration as scheduled started at 2.30p.m., with the floral welcome of the revered Director Mr. D.S. Bedi, Shivalik Public Schools and lighting of the inaugural lamp. The function began with Saraswati Vandana, an invocation to the heavenly muses. The annual report was presented by Mrs. Hardip Kaur, well supported with the power point presentation reflecting the achievements of the school and the students was a sheer treat for the eyes of the parents and the guests. A musical extravaganza was presented to showcase the students’ talents and enthusiasm. Students gave laudable performance in the theme dances aesthetically depicting students’ life, female foeticide and illegal immigration. A dazzling visual treat was presented by the young girls in umbrella dance. The children showcased the journey of the river Ganges through mime and ended with a plea to keep Ganges clean and pollution free. A power point presentation was presented giving parenting tips to the parents. Parents were also apprised with the presentation on latest 21st century education.

The revered Director Mr. D.S. Bedi gave away the prizes to the students for their academic achievements & acknowledged their wonderful performances. Awards for excellence and the all rounders’ trophies were given both on the basis of scholastic and co-scholastic achievements. Jhummar marked a finale to the colourful programme. The Annual Day concluded with the vote of thanks and the National Anthem , leaving behind the promise of a handful of brighter hues the next year.

8 Decemeber 2013 Annual Function Pre -Primary

Dedication and perseverance are the most important elements for attainment of perfection and a reflection of this could be seen at the Annual Prize Distribution and Cultural Program of Shivalik Public School Mohali. The eagerly awaited celebrations witnessed on December 8,2013 wit

h distinct performances by the Pre-Primary section students ( Classes KG to II ) in the school auditorium. The program was given the title “Colors Of India “. The program started with lighting the lamp of the knowledge followed by”SaraswatiVandana”, an invocation to the heavenly muses. The annual report highlighting the achievements of the school was presented; the PPT reflecting the achievements of the school and the students was a sheer treat for the eyes of parents and guests. As the title suggested, a colorful dance bonanza was staged by the students as they started with” Party Dance” spreading happiness in the surroundings , followed by “Bengali Dance”, “Goa Dance”,”Gujraati Dance” and“Kashmiri Dance”. The taste was changed when the students thrilled on “English Vinglish”. Going beyond the boundaries of the country students performed on Arabian, Western and Japanese tunes also. Students made everybody to dance when they thrilled on Punjabi beats. “Patriotic Fusion” of KG class students made all presentees’ proud of being Indian and to bow their head in respect. The highlight of the function was that there was 100% participation and all the students were given medal giving the message that all are winners in their own way. At the end Mr. D.S.Bedi appreciated the efforts of the teachers and the students.

 

 

Gurpurab celebrationgurpurab

Shivalik Family of students and teachers congregated in the state of art the school auditorium to pay obeisance to the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji whose gurpurab falls on sunday. The function started with the recitation of shabad “Satguru Nanak Pargatya”. PPT highlighting the life history of Guru Nanak Dev Ji was presented. After this teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji were highlighted through different sakhis of his life. Students recited Gurbani Kirtan and Poems in praise of lord with great religious fervor, dedication and devotion. Revered Principal Mrs. Bedi said that the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji are of profound significance to mankind. She also said that all the students should inculcate the tachinngs of Guru Nanak Dev ji in their lives. He gave the message of love, harmony , brotherhood and his universal vision, compassion which provides inspiration for all humanity.

Children’s Day Celebrations

The joyous celebrations took place in the form of Community Lunch followed by a cultural program in the school auditorium. The function commenced with a PowerPoint Presentation by a teacher on the significance of this day and also about the life sketch of the great Political Leader Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. Students from all the wings of the school created an absolute aura of innocence by paying a tribute to childhood via their speech, songs, poems and skits. As children love gifts so this was an occasion to bring a smile on their faces by conferring prices to the students section-wise for their achievements in various class activities held within the classes that included singing and dancing activities. The revered Director Mr. D.S Bedi showed gesture of affection by distributing sweets among all the students of the school. Thus, the day ended with some sweet memories to be cherished for the lifetime.

The CRISP (The Consortium For Research In School Pedagogy) organization conducted a workshop on the 21st century education wherein Mr. Udai Lauria and his team collectively put up a lecture that highlighted the process of empowering teachers to teach effectively in 21st century using multi-media as a tool to engage students in learning. This workshop defined the process of developing the digital content using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) Model. The workshop focused on building teacher’s confidence in delivering quality, creative and regular lessons outdoor. The ability to access, analyze, evaluate and communicate information in a variety of formats including print and digital. The workshop also conducted an in depth exploration of fusing 3Rs and 4Cs (Critical thinking and problem solving, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity and innovation) with class room teaching. The second session of the workshop included practical usage and suggested softwares for making teaching learning easier and effective. The workshop concluded with an interactive session with teachers.

Shivalik Public School, Phase -6, Mohali held special assembly of Classes I -IVto celebrate Dussehra festival. This festival symbolise victory of good over evil, truth over lies and justice over injustice. Poetic Recitation, speech was given by the students. Power point presentation was shown on the significance of this festival.Role play was enacted by the students of

classes I to IV. Worthy director Mr. D.S Bedi enlightened the students through his valuable words to do good deeds and to inculcate desirable values in them.

 

 

SPIC MACAY

The Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) organized a heritage function at Shivalik Public School, Phase-VI, Mohali wherein the two most elite musicians of the country, Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Pt. Ram Kumar Mishra delivered a soul soothing performance, a musical jugalbandi full of Divine Melody. Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, the foremost disciple of Pt. Ravi Shankar and the winner of Grammy Award happens to be the creator of MOHAN VEENA, a musical instrument which is an amalgamation of varied other musical instruments. This is what makes man of such genius one of the leading classical maestros of our country. Pt. Ram Kumar Mishra also happens to be one of the top ranking exponents of Tabla in India. The function aimed to promote the interest and inclination for classical music amongst the youth. Students took keen interest throughout as the ambience was filled with rhythm and it was followed by an interactive session with the students. The function winded up with the token of gratitude which was given to the eminent maestros by the honorable Director of the school Sir, Mr. D.S Bedi

5th Sep, 2013 (Teacher’s Day)

Shivalik Public School celebrated Teachers’day with its faculty members of all the branches in the school auditorium of teachers dayMohali branch today. The function started with the lighting of the lamp by the school revered Director Mr. D.S. Bedi. After that the Almighty’s blessings were sought as the music faculty presented Saraswati Vandana and school shabad. After this, a tribute was paid to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a great philosopher and the second President of India. A presentation was presented to highlight the life of this great educationist of India. The function began with an impressive PPT which emphasized the need of “Teacher as an agent of change in 21st century”. Another PPT based on the topic “learner centered teaching” was taken up. The need of innovative teaching strategies like conceptual learning was highlighted through a PPT. After this cultural program full of colorful bonanza started with variety of dances, group songs and skits which brought forth the latent talent of teachers.

Award Ceremony – “Teacher”, the very word brings forth many emotions like reverence, admiration, awe and much more. Teachers play a pivotal role in our society and it won’t be wrong to say that they are the builders of a nation. To honor the distinguished services of faculty members the following teachers Ms. Ekta Parashar, Ms. Suman Anand, Ms. Gogi Gupta, Ms. Kulmeet. Ms. Maoushmi, Ms. Jashmin, Ms. Daisy Grewal, Ms. Hardeep, Ms. Deepika Luthra, Ms. Inderjeet Kaur, Ms. Teena Chora, Ms. Kiranjot Kaur, Ms. Seema Sharma, Ms. Asha Menon and Ms. Satinder Pal Kaur were awarded with cash prize, memento and the shawl. Director of the school Mr. D.S. Bedi motivated and appreciated teachers and paid homage to the role of teachers in expanding the learners’ horizons and also to put the spot light on the expanding horizons for teachers in the new knowledge society of the 21st century. In the end, sumptuous lunch was enjoyed by the teachers.

30 August Seminar on adolescence

Well aware students are the well aware citizens of tomorrow. Personal awareness is must. Keeping this in mind, Shivalik Public School Mohali organized a seminar on “Adolescence”. The representatives from Director Health Services , Punjab and Civil Surgeon Office, Phase-6, Mohali were invited to address the gathering. The talks were quite informative and supported by power point presentation. Student took keen interest in knowing themselves. Later guests were given ample time for answering the queries put up by the students. Seminar ended with the vote of thanks and concluded with the exhibition to make students more aware about themselves.

Independence Day

67TH Independence day which is a golden day engraved in the history of the world.We got freedom on this date and it is a day worth celebrations.
Shivalik Public School, Mohali was wrapped in the patriotic fervor. The day commemorated with the hoisting of the flag by Revered Director Mr. D.S.Bedi. N.C.C. cadets of the school showcased impressive march past followed by the cultural programme in the auditorium. The students were in full gusto and enthusiasm as the patriotic aura could be felt by everyone present in the auditorium. The school choir sang patriotic songs in full spirit of serving the nation, mime on (communal harmony), dances and power point presentations were the
special attractions because they put across the creative ideas of new
innovations in education to make the youth realize the actual meaning of freedom whereas Hindi, English and Punjabi poems were recited in the praise of country. Students showcased mesmerizing dance
performances. Spirit of serving the nation was clearly bulging out through poems and speeches of the students. Spirit of patriotism ran through the whole auditorium with colourful dances presented by students on patriotic theme. The celebrations made everyone sail back into the past to remember and pay homage to the freedom fighters. Director Mr. D.S. Bedi congratulated the students as well as teachers and motivated with his jewels of wisdom.

Career Counseling Session for Classes XI and XII of Shivalik Public

Shivalik Public School, Mohali conducted a Counseling Session on 25 April 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the State of Art School, auditorium after the floral welcome given by Mr. D.S.Bedi, Director, Shivalik Public Schools. More than 200 students mostly from Classes XI and XII of Shivalik Public School, Sec 41 and Mohali branch attended the session. Mr. Bedi graced the occasion as the Chairperson and various other educational Institution members and teachers of the school also attended the session. A short background of Baldwin Wallace University, Ohio, US was given by Mr. Richard Drust President, Emeritus of Baldwin Wallace University, Cleaveland, Ohio USA. The
session was well introduced and well co-coordinated. The first part of the session was on the topic “Choosing Career after XII and beyond. His presentation covered the following aspects, Career phases- Transition Phase- XI and XII, Career Options- academic and Non Academics: Options that are not aware. Post this the counselors
interacted with the students in a question answer session and the event concluded with a vote of thanks .On the whole the session was very well received with a number of students expressing that their awareness levels have increased. A teacher mentioned that it was a unique session she has never attended before.The students filled up
the questionnaire after the session. It is Shivalik ‘s firm belief that young students, today need superior guidance and awareness in order to fulfill their career goals and not
get derailed on their journey. He school will dedicate time and energy in order to keep this initiative successful and sustainable.

Pratap House Celebrations In Shivalik

pratapShivalik Public School , Mohali students celebrated Partap House Day in the state of art auditorium . The celebrations of the house day co-incited with the birthday of Maharana Pratap that falls today .The beginning of the celebrations was done with the garlanding the
portrait of Maharana Pratap by Honourable Director of the school Mr. D.S. Bedi . It was followed by a program showcased by the students. This program included presentations, speeches, poetic recitation, songs and a skit too. The whole program depicted different episodes, character and life history of Maharana Pratap. It was quite fruitful exercise to make the students feel that they should go on with ‘never say die’ attitude. In the end the director of the school appreciated the toil of the students and the teachers put in to make the program a success. The curtain on the function came down with the recitation
of the national anthem .

Baisakhi and the Founder’s Day , double delight for Shivalikians was celebrated with full fervour and zest in Shivalik baisakhiPublic school, Mohali. The festivities of the day began in the school auditorium with religious function where ‘Kirtani Jatha’ of the school students recited Shabad taking every body into the spiritual world. Later the students presented a cultural bonanza including the power point presentations and video clippings which highlighted the accomplishments made by Shivalikians in different spheres of life. Students delivered speeches and recited `poems to mark this day. Dance troupe and the singers of the school choir mesmerized the audience with their performances. The festive spirit achieved its greatest height with the Bhangra performance held in the ground where 400 students performed it in a synchronized steps in colorful attire which enthralled everybody. School director Mr. D.S.Bedi wished everybody Happy Baisakhi and Founder’s Day . Cherishing the memories of Founder’s Day he told that foundation stone of Shivalik was laid 43 years ago on this day by five students amidst recitation of Gurbani .Since then this prestigious institution has endeavoured to channelise the energy and the creativity of young minds towards their overall development and perfection. He appraised students and staff members for their efforts. The curtain on the function came down with the singing of the National Anthem

N.S.S. seven day camp ended today.Chief guest was S.Manmohan Singh who started the function along with our emiment Director Mr. D.S. A thorough medical check up is conducted for all the students and a proper record is maintained. Keeping in view the oral hygiene of the students, a dental clinic has also been setup.

ART & CRAFT:

To enhance creativity of the students, Art and Craft section plays an important role. Students are taught the art of painting including emboss, nib, oil and glass painting. Students are also taught to develop their skills by way of making origami, thumb painting, coin painting, mask making, pattern making etc.

Our students take part in various competitions held at inter-school and national level. The best exhibits are displayed in various exhibitions held in and outside the city.

LIBRARY:

imageThe school has a well-stocked computerised Library consisting of about 12,000 volumes including 40 sets of Encyclopedias, under the charge of qualified librarians. Good number of periodicals and newspapers are also subscribed to keep students abreast with latest happenings. It has an open shelf system so as to allow students free access to the books. There is a junior library for the middle and primary classes. Students are constantly encouraged to develop good reading habits.

True to its motto, ‘Unity and Discipline’, National Cadet Corps (NCC) is offered to the students in the secondary classes. In 1984, Junior Division (JD) for boys and in 1986, Junior Wing (JW) for girls was allotted to the institution. NCC cadets regularly attend National Integration Camps, Basic Leadership Camps (BLC) and Hiking and Trekking Camps held at the state and national level, during the academic session. Our NCC Cadets have been selected to attend Republic Day Camp at New Delhi and they have also been keenly participating in the Prime Minister’s Rally held annually.

The Youth Services Department, Punjab has sanctioned N.S.S. Unit of 100 volunteers to the school. Various N.S.S. Camps are organized in our school in which volunteers from different schools and colleges participate. Our N.S.S. volunteers also go for Hiking and Trekking Camps to Manali (H.P.) and other places organized by the Youth Services Department.

Transport

Bus transport is provided on request to students residing in Chandigarh only. The bus fare is charged for a period of 11 months. A student availing the transport facility cannot withdraw voluntarily during the session. Withdrawal may be allowed only in those cases where the parents of the student have been transferred or have shifted their residence to a nearby sector…
