Fancy Dress Competition

Date:-23/05/2010
It was a colorful, zestful and energetic affair at Shivalik Public School, Mohali, when the young Shivalikians of classes I and II had their fancy dress competition.The event started with school shabad. The students were seen in their motley appearance depicting different characters like Mother Earth, tree, Mahatama Gandhi, Bhaghat Singh, Nehruji, Donate Blood, traffic lights etc. There was 100% participation to encourage each and every childs talent. All the participants made the characters lively by acting vigorously. The winners were given the prizes and appreciation certificates. All the participants were given refreshment. At the end, Principal Mrs. Satwant Kaur Bedi encouraged the students with her valuable words. Inter House Sports Quiz

Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh organized an Inter House Sports Quiz Competition on cricket, Hockey and football to raise awareness in field of sports. Ajit House was the winner with 62 points, Jujhar house bagged the second position while Fateh House stood third.
  
International Conference for the environment

Shreyash Sharma of Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh is selected to represent in the Children and Youth International Conference for the Environment" to be held at BRAZIL in the month of June, to give voice to the ideas and opinions of young children on environmental issues. The school took up the project of Recycling of paper as a joint action research activity involving both the school and the local community. Recycling of paper was started in the school campus by a group of five students under the assistance of Ms Ajinder Kaur and Ms Shikha, highlighting the importance of trees thereby saving environment. It is with this mission that our school students have done significant work in reducing the paper waste generated in the school. Working on paper recycling demonstrates the concept of recycling waste into wealth. The project of Recycling of paper was forwarded to CBSE which on further scrutinity of all the entries of various schools of India selected 13 entries to NCERT for further consideration and finally eight schools were shortlisted to represent India in International conference of children and youth , Brazil in June 2010.
  
Completeion of 10 years of British Library in the city beautiful.

On the occasion of completeion of 10 years of British Library in the city beautiful. The British library held literary competition for all age groups in which various schools participated . Annual Prize Distribution and Cultural programme

The school celebrated the Annual Prize Distribution and Cultural programme on Saturday, January 16th ,2010 in the school Auditorium Shivalik Public School, Mohali.A cultural programme was held where Brig. D. S. Dhillon Advisor ,Youth Affairs was the chief guest students from classes VI to VIII took part in the programme and showed their talents through goan dance, fusion dance, songs and much more which impressed everyone. In the end, vote of thanks was given by Director D. S .Bedi. The chief guest Brig .D. S. Dhillon praised the efforts of teachers. Such extra- curricular activities are held to give vent to the creative side of students.
  
Shivalik Shines in C.B.S.E. North Zone Hockey Tournament

C.B.S.E. North Zone-I Hockey tournament inaugurated at Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh. Twelve teams from Delhi, Haryana, Himachal and Punjab are participating in age group of under 19 and under 14 are participating in this tournament. Mr.Manohar Singh District Sports Officer Mohali was the chief guest at the inaugural function of the tournament. First match in the age group under 14 was played between Shivalik Public School Mohali and Saint Vivekanand Millenium HMT Pinjore. Shivalik school players dominated the play throughout the match and recorded a victory of 3 goals to nil. Harpreet Singh, Gursewak Singh and Maninderpal of Shivalik school scored one goal each for their team. In the second match between Netaji Model School Ropar vs Ganga International School Delhi, Netaji Model school Ropar in a well contested match defeated Ganga International School Delhi by 2 goals to nil. Talwinder Singh and Gursimran Singh were the scorers for Netaji Model School Ropar. In the matches boys (u/ 19) Akal Academy Baru Sahib defeated Army School Akhnoor by a last minute gaol scored by Tejinder Singh. Both the teams got 5 penality corners each during the match but none converted into a goal. Even AABS missed penality stroke in the 47th minute of the match. League matches will be starting from 1st of October at Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, Chandigarh and GMSSS sector 37, Chandigarh.
  
Teachers Day Celebration

Dr Sarvpalli Radhakrishnan, the most celebrated teacher of India was remembered on his birthday by the educational faculty of Shivalik group of Institutions i.e. SPS Chandigarh, SPS Mohali, SPS Patiala and Shivalik Institute of Education and Research, Mohali. The day, presently called as, ‘The Teachers Day’ was utilized by the students to pay respects to their teachers.The venue of celebration was SPS auditorium Mohali. The celebrations began with the garlanding of Dr. Radhakrishnan’s portrait and followed up with speeches, PowerPoint presentations, poems and songs by the students in praise of their teachers. The teachers themselves were invited to a present their PowerPoint presentations highlighting the topics ‘Zero tolerance’, ‘New Education Policy’ and ‘New Trends in Education’. Teachers were honored by the school authorities for their meritorious services rendered to their institutions. Ms. Rita Mitra, Ms. Vijay Sabharwal, Ms. Shikha Ghuman, Ms. Archana Sharma, Ms. Sadhana Goel, Ms. Ruchika, Mr. Basant Thakur of Chandigarh branch and Ms. Meenu Singh, Ms. Pooja Piplani, Ms. Kulwinder, Ms. Rajni, Ms. Saveena, and Ms. Gagandeep were honoured with the cash award of Rs 3100, a shawl and a bouquet. Apart from this 34 teachers were honoured with the award of appreciation comprising cash award of Rs. 2100, a bouquet and a book. Ms. Das, Ms. Preetinder, Ms. Manju, Mr. Chawla, Ms. Rashmi, Ms. Gurpinder, Ms. Shilpa, Ms.Geeta, Ms. Balwinder Kaur, Ms. Gurpreet Walia, ms. Tejinder Kaur, Ms. Surina, Ms. Kulmit, Ms. Manjeet, Mr. Ajit from Chandigarh Branch, Ms. Seema and Ms. Kavita from Patiala branch, Ms. Malwinder, Ms. Baldeep, Ms.Daisy, Mr. Onkar Ms. Renu, Ms. Deepika, Ms.Inderjit, Ms. Hardeep, Ms.Daljit, Mr. Anil, Mr.Mohinder Singh, Ms.Sonia, Ms.Manjeet Cheema and Ms. Karamsheel from Phase VI branch are awarded. All the faculty members were gifted books too. Shri D.S Bedi the Director of Shivalik Public Schools paid tributes to Dr. Radahakrishnan. He commended the efforts of teaching faculty in promoting high standards of education and bringing laurels to their respective institution. A sumptuous lunch was also organized for the teachers. The main purpose of in-service training programme is to make the teachers at least of new educational trends and techniques. Janmashtmi celebrations

Janamashtami was celebrated in Shivalik Public school, 41-B on Thursday. Matki decoration, Bansuri decoration and Mukut making competitions were conducted. Students also gave speeches and recited poems on the eve of Janamashtami. All students participated enthusiastically. All boards in the corridor were decorated and items were displayed in the school corridor. Winners were given away prizes.
  
Inset programme

In service training programme is being organized in the auditorium of Shivalik Public school, phase-6,Mohali from 26th May to 30th May under the guidance of Director Principal Sh. D.S Bedi. All the faculty from three branches of Mohali,Chandigarh and Patiala. Constructivism, life skills /values, creativity and coping up with the slow learners were some of the areas of discussions. Boys outshine girls in Mohali

Shivalik Public School,Sec-56 once again grabbed the top three positions in the city,in the CBSE Class X exams.Nishant Ojha topper with 97.4 percent marks,while Vivek Pankaj Mehta with 97.2 percent marks and Arshdeep Singh with 96.4 percent marks,secured the second and third position respectively.Besides the top ten positions in Mohali were secured by students of Shivalik Public School.
  
School Closing Ceremony

Shivalik Public School, Sector/41 organised the school closing ceremony on 21st May 2009 for the upcoming summer vacations. Students presented a cultural program including various music and dance performances. Students also recited self composed poems and speeches relating to summer holidays. Director Mr. D.S Bedi was the guest of honour. Also present was Principal Mrs. Gurkiran Nalwa. At the end students were offered sweet water.

Today around 50 students of Block -B , Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh visited Basera, a sector 11 Khuda Lahora based animal hospital for the diseased and deserted street animals. This shelter house is being run by PFA (People For Animals) Chandigarh. The purpose of this visit was basically to inculcate kindness among students. Mr. Das, The veterinary showed the students the operation theatre, Kennels for dogs and sheds for buffalos under treatment. The students received a great shock to watch the pathetic situation of the animals being thrown mercilessly out in the streets by some cruel sect. They were moved so much so that they donated eatables and cash to the hospital and prayed that they get well soon. They promised that would never ever hurt any animal in their lives rather protect them in any possible way.
  
World Earth Day

"World Earth Day" was celebrated by Eco-club - Prakriti of Shivalik Public School, 41-B, Chandigarh to lay stress on the importance of restoring the greenery of our mother earth. Posters and slogans were displayed in the campus. Paper bag making competition based on resolution "Say no to polybags" was organized. A pledge to contribute to the cleanliness and greenery of the earth was administered to the students. The zeal and zest shown by the students added to the grand success of this day.
  
Founder's Day Celebrations

13th April is doubly auspicious for Shivalik Public School, Mohali. The foundation of the School was laid on the Baisakhi Day 39 years ago by five students of the school amidst recitation of Gurbani. The prestigious institution that came into being that day has been the torch bearer of education in the region ever since. The occasion is therefore very special every year. This year too the day is celebrated with great gusto by both the branches of Shivalik Public School, ie. SPS Chandigarh and SPS Mohali and Shivalik Institute of Education and Research. When one assesses the achievements of the school over these years, one feels proud to be a Shivalikian. In academics, we boast not only of the 100% results in board classes but also of bagging the top positions in the Mohali District/region. In co-curricular activities too our students wherever they compete they make their presence felt with their excellent performance. As for the infrastructure of the school, starting from the Nursery Wing equipped with colorful swings and slides, spacious playfields, Gymnasium Hall, State-of-the-Art Auditorium, six-a-side hockey ground with Astroturf (shortly to be commissioned),Smart Class Rooms and Open Air Theatre all are catered for to achieve the overall development of the personality traits of the students. The festivities of the day began with the recitation of Japuji Sahib followed with brief narration of the history of the school. The Kirtani Jatha recited the Shabads. To commemorate the day, a lucid Power Point Presentation was made on the 40th Founder’s Day by Ms. Anupkiran. The students thereafter came to occupy the centre stage regaling the audience with speeches, poems, and dances. As the beat of the ‘Dhol’ reverberated in the hall, every one was enthralled. Shri D.S. Bedi, Director Principal of the school summed up the proceedings of the day wishing every one a happy Baisakhi and Founder’s Day. A sumptuous Guru Ka Langar and ‘shabeel’ awaited the gathering as they left the auditorium.
  
Shivalik honour its State Level Sportsmen

The Annual Sports Day Shivalik Public School, honoured it 27 outstanding players who represented at the National level and in the School National Games in various sports and events during the year 2008-09. Their break up is as under :- Hockey 7, Chess 4, Gymnastic 4, Swimming 3, Teakwondo 3, Cricket 3, Athletic 1, Basketball 1, Badminton 1. Annual Sports Day of the school was celebrated with athletics and recreational events performed by the students of the school. Programme of sports for all is running in the school where every student has to participate in games and sports for keeping them self physically fit and sound in the mind.
  
Get Together Function

The students of Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh hosted a "Get Together" to wish luck to the outgoing class X. The students of class IX endeavoured to make this evening a most memorable one by presenting a spectrum of fun and entertainment. Manny students of class X through their experiences payed gratitude to the management, faculty for grooming and preparing them to face the challenges ahead. In the end, the Director Mr. D.S Bedi wished luck and success to the outgoing class. The Day concluded with a scrumptious lunch for all.
  
Valediction 2009

Valediction 2009 was organized by Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh to bid farewell to the outgoing class 12th .The programme was a misc of emotions, nostalgia and above all loads of fun. Class XI apart from presenting a scintillating cultural programme also bestowed befitting titles to their seniors. The students of XII while sharing their experiences thanked the institution, faculty for being instrumental in making them competent to face the challenges with fortitude.Arshdeep and Yuvraj with their separate and charm won the crown of Miss and Mr. Shivalik, respectively. In the end, the Director Mr. D.S Bedi wished luck and success to the outgoing class. The Day concluded with a scrumptious luck for all.
  
Annual Prize Distribution and Cultural Programme

9th Feb., 2009, the middle wing of Shivalik Public School, Sec-41 B, Chandigarh celebrated its Annual Prize Distribution and Cultural Programme in the school auditorium at Shivalik Public School, Phase-VI, Mohali. Dr. Inderpal Singh, Former Pro Vice Chancellor, G.N.D.U Amritsar graced the occasion as the Cheif Guest. The programme began on a pious note with the recitation of the school shabad followed by lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest. Mrs. Gurkiran Nalwa, the Principal presented the annual report highlighting the achievements of the school. She made a special mention of the 29 students who scored above 90% marks in the AISSE Examination conducted by C.B.S.E in the year 2007-08 and 7 students who were awarded scholarships by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development. She also apprised the parents with forth coming projects and goals of the school. Dressed in their colourful attires the students presented a variety of items. It was a harmonious blend of Dandia, Rajasthani, western, fusion and umbrella dances. Qawwali was the highlight of the day. All the students participated with great enthusiasm. Students were honoured for their scholastic and their Co-scholastic achievements and the Chief Guest appreciated the students for their hardwork. The function ended with the vote of thanks by Director Mr. D.S. Bedi.

Republic Day Celebrations

Shivalik Public School, Sec 41-B Chandigarh celebrated the 59th Republic Day in the school. The school wore a festive look and the tri colored adorned the campus. The national flag was unfurled by the Director of the school Mr. D.S Bedi. The cultural programme included patriotic songs and dances presenting unity in diversity. Students recited poems to bring out the nationalistic flavour. Members of the faculty gave speeches to apprise the students of the role of freedom fighters in the national struggle. The Director addressed the students and urged them all to uphold the nationalistic spirit and universal brotherhood. The day culminated with distribution of sweets on the occasion.
  
Christmas Celebration

Christmas celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm at Shivalik Public School, Sector 41-B, Chandigarh. Student from different classes presented various cultural items including songs, dance and plays. Some children dressed up as Santa Clause and distributed sweets to children. Director Mr. D.S. Bedi and Prinvipal Ms. Gurkiran were invited as the Chief Guests. At the end students had a community lunch and they all exchanged gifts
  
Science Exhibition

A Science Exhibition was organized at Shivalik Public School, Sector 41-B, Chandigarh. The competition was held in three categories- Food and Nutrition; Green Environment and Harnessing Energy Resources. 38 students from classes VI to VIII participated with their working and non-working models. Mrs.Gurkiran was the chief guest on the occasion. The judgement was made and winners were declared.
  
International Informatics Olympiad Exam

Shivalik Public School, Sector 41-B, Chandigarh conducted International Informatics Olympiad Exam, organized by Computer Literacy Foundation, New Delhi in September, 2008. The School has contributed significantly to popularise Computer Science education among the students. From 80 participants 28 students were awarded the medals Gold, Silver and bronze to heighten their spirit. 6 students (Paranasree Das, Divya Sehjal, Ajay Kumar, Ishleen, Varinderjit Kaur and Ravi Shankar Gaur) are the winners of free enrollment ticket for NGC-08 and 5 students have been selected for the II Level IIO-08 exam to be held in January 2009
  
Math Exhibition

Keeping in mind, channelization of creative abilities, Shivalik Public School, Sec 41-B Chandigarh organized an exhibition of Mathematics and Social Studies Model in which 130 students were participated actively. They gave the presentation on models, falling in both working and non-working categories. The exhibition was judged by Mrs. Bains and Ms. Gurpinder.The well explained model title is given to Guransh of VI,Amandeep and Sagar of VII and Ritu and Kajal of VIII,Prizes for the Creative Model Category is given to Swati of VIII class.Mass participation was there by the students, they got to learn many things from the exhibition. The Exhibition was a great Success
